this season i’m excited about offering a new workshop on dyeing a wool or silk scarf. It’s perfect for everyone who wants to learn about natural dyes but is not a knitter. The workshops on plastic upcycling and making re-usable wax cloth wrappers are interesting and scheduled to continue as well. dyeing a scarf with natural dyes

This collaborative workshop is perfect for everyone who is interested and wants to learn about natural dyes but is not a knitter. You will have a choice of wool and silk scarves and a range of natural dyes to choose from. You will learn to use local wild plants, such as acorn, eucalyptus, coffee berry, french broom and lichen as well as other natural dyes. You will learn the whole process from pretreating (mordant) the fabric, preparing the dye-bath from plants to the actual process of dyeing. You will go home with a scarf that you dyed yourself, a ton of confidence, formulas and dyeing tips to help you to experiment on your own. The all-inclusive price for a 3-hour workshop is 95 dollars. Group size is 4-8 people.

upcycling plastic

Unfortunately we still have plastic bags but fortunately we can recycle them! In this workshop you will learn how to upcycle your plastic bags and wrappings by melting them into new exciting material. This workshop is full of experimenting and opportunities of getting creative since the technique allows you to try out mixing materials and adding details by stitching by hand or machine. This new material is great for making durable tote bags, pouches, etc. You can bring different types of used plastic bags with you. The all-inclusive price for a 2,5-hour workshop is 90 dollars. Group size is 4-6 people.

wax cloth wrappings

Replacing single use plastic wrappings with multiple use wax-cloth makes sense! In this workshop you can make your personal wax wrappings. We’ll print the cloths using block-printing or stencil printing methods and use bee’s wax to finish the cloth to become waterproof. You can measure your favorite bowls and cups to make matching covers in the workshop or you can sew your cloth into a lunch bag. The all-inclusive price for a 2,5-hour workshop is 95 dollars. ABC of knitting

This is a workshop for learning the basics of knitting for absolute beginners. You will get an inspiring start to a new skill by learning to knit in a fast continental style. During this workshop you can start working on a hat or a scarf or you can choose to learn the basics for your future projects. You will learn to cast-on, knit, purl, cast-off and read the pattern. The price of a 4-hour workshop is 95 dollars and it includes knitting needles, a ball of wool and patterns with instructions. You can also purchase naturally hand dyed wool yarns at the studio. Group size is 4-8 people.

Happy toes in woolly socks! In this workshop you will learn how to knit comfy socks. This class is perfect for knitters with basic knitting skills. You will learn to knit in continental style, knit circular knits with 5 needles, make the strong and well-fitting heel and finally finish the sock at the toe. The price of a 5-hour workshop is 110 dollars and it includes knitting needles, a ball of wool and patterns with instructions. You can also purchase naturally hand dyed yarn at the studio. Did you know that your kitchen can be a fantastic source of natural dyes? This workshop is perfect for knitters who want to dye their own wool. In this workshop we’ll go ahead and experiment with some common vegetables, spices and fruit. We learn to dye wool with for example red and yellow onion skins, avocado skins, tea and coffee. A few simple rules and your kitchen can turn into a fiber art studio! You will go home with a ton of confidence, formulas and samples, dyeing tips and notes to help you to dye on your own. felting

Join this workshop to learn how to felt with soap and water. This fun workshop is suitable for the whole family in which you will learn to felt round shapes for pearls, key rings, cat toys etc. You can cover stones or other round shapes for door stoppers, paperweights, stress toys or decorations. You’ll learn to mix colors for personal designs and get to try adding details with a felting needle. The all-inclusive price for this 2,5-hour workshop is 80 dollars. Group size is 4-8 people. Note: This workshop is not suitable for people with wool allergy!

dye and knit workshop

2 days (10 hours)

Learn the basics of knitting and how to dye with local plants. You are welcome to join if you are a beginner or just want to learn more! Learning together and from one another is part of the fun. During these workshops you will learn to:

  • Dye wool with natural dyes from local plants

  • Start your own project and learn continental knitting style

We will get together on two Saturdays. The workshops include 10 hours of dyeing and knitting together. The cost of the two-day workshop is 200 dollars per person including knitting needles, a ball of wool, all materials for samples, plant dyes and mordants, printed formulas and patterns.
